Bar & Restaurant Insurance in Columbia, SC
Liquor liability and general liability insurance for Columbia and Midlands bars, restaurants and taverns, from a program that launched right here in Columbia.
The Midlands market
Columbia’s Nightlife Has Paid the Price
From Five Points and the Vista to Main Street and Cottontown, Columbia’s bars and restaurants serve a capital city, a university of more than 40,000 students and a growing food scene. They’ve also been among the hardest hit by South Carolina’s liquor liability crisis.
In the past two years, several well-known Columbia bars have closed or scaled back, with rising liquor liability costs cited as a reason. Columbia is also where the state’s liquor liability law is written and debated, so local operators have watched the changes more closely than anyone.
Late-night bars
No Closing-Time Restrictions
One longtime Five Points bar had to cut its hours after its insurer left the state and no other carrier would cover it after 2 a.m. We don’t put blanket limits on closing times. We look at how a late-night business is actually run (its security, ID checks, staffing and crowd) and price the real risk.
How we work in Columbia
Insurance Built Around How You Operate
Columbia’s hospitality businesses range from student bars to white-tablecloth steakhouses. Our underwriting is built to tell them apart.
We launched here
We introduced our program at a July 2026 press event at Vino Garage in Cottontown, alongside the South Carolina Bar & Tavern Association. Columbia operators were part of this program from the start.
We see your operation in person
Instead of pricing from a form, we take the time to understand how your business runs on a busy night, whether that’s a game-day crowd in the Vista or a Saturday dinner rush on Main Street.
We measure the right thing
We look at how much alcohol is served per guest, not just your alcohol percentage, which is a far better measure of liquor liability risk for everything from sports bars to fine dining.

What Columbia Operators Need to Know
Columbia businesses follow the same state rules as the rest of South Carolina under H.3430, which took effect January 1, 2026:
$1 million in liquor liability coverage if you serve alcohol on-premises after 5 p.m.
State-approved server training for anyone who serves alcohol, within 30 days of hire.
An approved ID scanner at the door if you serve between midnight and 4 a.m., which covers many Five Points and Vista bars.
